The undergraduate program in the Department of Mathematics intended for students interested in using mathematic to define and solve problems in the sciences, engineering, and other areas, as well as for those who wish to understand further the logical content, geometric meaning, and abstract reasoning of mathematics itself. A flexible program in involving a broad election of courses is a department tradition. The program begins by introducing students to the basics of algebra and mathematical analysis and then gives them the choice of exploring topics in theoretical mathematics or studying applications to physics, economics, engineering, computer science, probability, statistics, or mechanics.
JHU Office of Undergraduate Admissions New Add/Drop Policy Effective June 2005 In the case that you are unable to register for a particular course, we will most likely be able to find a space for you. However, you must be flexible about the section meeting time. Our policy for students attempting to register for introductory math courses is that they attend the class as if they were registered. It is the responsibility of the student to check with the Online Registrar Services periodically during the first two weeks of the semester to see if any space has become available. For students who have not obtained a space by the end of the day on Wednesday, September 21, 2005, there will bee an opportunity to file an add/drop form in the Math Department. All students still needing to file an add/drop form must come to Krieger 211 on Thursday, September 22 or Friday, September 23 between 11:00 & 2:00. You must be flexible about the section meeting time. PLEASE NOTE: Students may change both courses and sections during the first two weeks of the semester without departmental approval – (freshman will require a advisor’s signature). After the two week period departmental approval is required for ALL schedule changes. For upper-division courses (110.400 and above) approval can be given by the Instructor. -For introductory courses (110.399 and below) approval must be granted by Sabrina Raymond (Krieger 405). Neither the signature of the TA or the Instructor constitute departmental approval and will not be sufficient for the change. (*note* exceptions for Honors courses Honors Calculus II (110.113) and Honors Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra (110.211-212), in which case the instructor’s approval is necessary and sufficient at any time during the semester. Registration will
be subject to availability of space and completion of pre-requisites.
Students inquiring about transferring credits from other schools should consult the registrar's office. If they need further assistance from the department, contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Rich Brown. |
