Math 646, Spring 2008
Professor Minicozzi
Lectures: MW 1:30 to 2:50.
Office Hours: 1-1:30 on Monday and 10-11 on Friday in Krieger 408.
We will start with a brief survey of Special Relativity, then introduce General Relativity (GR), and then do some geometric topics in GR including the positive mass theorem of Schoen and Yau.
Recommended references: O'Neill's Semi-Riemannian Geometry, Colding and Minicozzi's Minimal Surfaces, and Greg Galloway's Beijing Lecture Notes.
The students will be responsible for typing up course notes and there will be several written assignments, but no exams.
Homework:
The homework is the most important part of the course. Everyone is expected to do all assignments by the date due and no late homeworks will be accepted. I encourage you to collaborate with your classmates on the assignments, but each student must write up (and hand in) their own homeworks.
The course grades will be determined solely from the homework grades.
